Sold for A$310

Dakin Brothers / of China / Limited. Aerated Water. Torpedo. Torpedo. Applied top. Dark Red Amber. 10 oz. 224 mm. 1880s

Good. (6). This bottle has been polished. This colour glass tends to be "soft" and so most examples known, which have been polished, have poor embossing. This example is somewhat better than most, the seams are still evident and the embossing is clear. There is a star crack in the right side, rear of the bottle, 25 mm in one direction, 20 mm in two other directions, and about 30 mm in a third direction. This is hard to see due to the dark nature of the bottle so this is still a great show piece. There is a small flake to the top lip, 4 x 2 mm plus a couple of fisheye marks to the lip. There is a scratch / split below limited near the base which is about 40 mm long. Some minor haze internally which is very difficult to detect again due to the dark colour. Some pit marks remaining. One of the Darwin found examples, this is the same bottle as sold way back in Auction 4, Lot 70. Estimate: $500-1000
