Royal Patent / (Coat of Arms) / Dieu Et Mon Droit / 2 / Water Filter. No potters mark. (United Kingdom). Pottery. Water Filter. Slab sealed water filter. Waisted Shape. Salt Glaze. 2 Gallon. 410 mm. 1860s
Good. (6.5). No lid. A little fine wear to upper rim. Fine hairline from right rim down to handle. 50 x 15 mm lump to rear rim, this is a form of crude repair. 30 x 9 mm flat chip to outer front left rim. Couple of hairlines from left rim head down towards the handle. Another to rear from this goes down about 130 mm. Slab seals are good, they do have making splits and hairlines, but this is as made. Small flake at bottom of one of the slab seals. Making split at top and bottom of applied body band. Right side of spigot has a crude repair to a relatively small chip, this is glazed in part, I actually think this and the larger lip repair are both from making? 40 x 9 mm chip to front right base edge, beside this is a 20 x 7 mm chip. About a 100 mm crack to front left base edge curves under the base and back up to the left. Upper part of pedestal base at rear has a few chips which are glazed over and filled, not huge. Impact and small crack here as well. 50 x 15 mm crude repair to upper right base. Some other little chips and flakes. Fabulous design with two different types of toggle marks including some that cross over down the body on each side. One magnificent piece of pottery and quite early I would suggest. Estimate: $50-75
